25 April 2012 - The results of a nationwide poll reveal that Americans are not going solar because they believe it is too expensive. In fact, 97 percent overestimate solar costs by nearly 20 times the actual cost, according to the online study of 2,211 adults commissioned by Sunrun and conducted by Harris Interactive.
The amount by which customers miscalculate solar costs is dumbfounding. Forty percent believe solar requires upfront costs of $20,000 or more when the true costs are around $1,000 or less.
Even though 95 percent of Americans are concerned about the rising costs of electricity from utilities, misconceptions about solar costs keep them from investing in potentially less expensive options. According to the survey, 78 percent of respondents who do not already have solar panels would install solar if cost were not a factor; 44 percent would go solar within the next year if cost were not a factor. read more>>>
