Green codes are coming: What will happen to U.S. Green Building Council??


December 22, 2010 - The world of green construction will change soon with the anticipated adoption of green building codes. So what will happen to the U.S. Green Building Council as a result?

One thing is certain: The only constant is change. My bet is we can expect significant changes with regards to LEED and its position in the building universe.

The International Code Council (ICC) has been successful in obtaining widespread adoption of its International Construction Code, International Residential Code and various specific trade codes. ICC is far along in its development of the International Green Construction Code (IGCC). On a parallel (and occasionally intersecting) track, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is developing Standard 189.1, Standard for the Design of High Performance, Green Buildings. We can anticipate that many states and localities, including those in the DC metro region, will promptly adopt or facilitate use of these standards when finalized. {continued}
