Solar panel company to expand to Austin

Expansion will create 450 jobs

23 Nov 2010 - Solar technology company SunPower Corporation has announced it's building a new U.S. operations center in Austin.

That will bring 450 new jobs to the Austin area. Governor Rick Perry says the state will invest 2-and-a-half million dollars in SunPower through the Texas Enterprise Fund. The City of Austin will likely commit $901,000 through the city's economic development fund.

SunPower Corporation spokespeople say they have not chosen a location yet but are exploring various building options. To be eligible for city incentives they must locate to a desired development zone which means not over the Edward's Aquifer Recharge Zone.

SunPower Coporation based in San Jose, California has announced the major expansion with a new office in Austin on Tuesday. {read rest}
