Kimberly-Clark goes solar with Duke's help

October 20, 2010 - Hendersonville's Kimberly-Clark Berkeley Mill manufacturing plant can now capture the sun's energy to power its operations thanks at a new solar panel project.

Kimberly-Clark Corp. produces health and hygiene brands including Huggies, Kleenex, Scott, Pull-Ups, Kotex, and Depend. The company partnered with Duke Energy to place 361 ground-mounted solar panels on 10,000 square feet of mill property, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

Power generated from the mill's 83-kilowatt system can produce enough electricity to power 10 average-sized homes. The Hendersonville location is one of 18 sites across North Carolina participating in Duke Energy's distributed solar generation program, Brett Carter, president of Duke Energy Carolinas, said in the release. {read rest}
