Green Building Outlook Strong

Nonresidential & Residential Green Building Outlook Strong
By 2013, new green building is projected to rise to between $98 billion and $106 billion and almost double that by 2016

November 15, 2012 - The U.S. green building market continues to accelerate, according to McGraw-Hill Construction’s 2013 Dodge Construction Green Outlook report. The value of green building has seen growth from $10 billion in 2005 to $78 billion in 2011. In 2012, the total market - nonresidential and residential - is expected to be worth $85 billion, and by 2013 overall new green building is projected to rise to between $98 billion and $106 billion. By 2016, this number is expected to reach $204 billion to $248 billion.

According to the report, Green building remains a bright spot in a still uncertain economy. Green is expected to represent 44 percent of all commercial and institutional construction in 2012, growing up to 55 percent by 2016. Residential green construction is also on the rise. read more>>>

Study: Contractors Consider Green Building Their Primary Business Opportunity
Half of global contractors expect more than 60% of their work to be green by 2015, up from 28% of firms in 2012

November 14, 2012 - A new study indicates contractors consider the green building marketplace an accelerating business opportunity, rather than a niche market. Results of the study by McGraw-Hill Construction, in partnership with United Technologies, were presented at Greenbuild International in San Francisco November 13, 2012.

Overwhelmingly, firms report that their top reasons to do green work are client demand (35 percent) and market demand (33 percent)—two key business drivers of strategic planning. The next top reasons were also oriented toward the corporate bottom line—lower operating costs (30 percent) and branding advantage (30 percent). read more>>>
