Utility earns top honor for solar

Tucson Electric wins national honor for solar programs
June 04, 2012 - Tucson Electric Power Co. has been honored by a national solar-industry group for its amped-up solar energy programs.

The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) has recognized TEP as the 2012 Investor Owned Utility of the Year for the company’s “leadership and continued investment in solar energy.”

In announcing the award, SEPA cited TEP’s Bright Tucson community solar program, which allows customers to support solar by buying shares in utility-scale solar plants, and its strong partnerships with the University of Arizona and the Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy in researching solar generating and storage technologies.

TEP was chosen as the winner from a field of 51 investor-owned utility SEPA members. The other finalists were Duke Energy and Hawaiian Electric Co. read more>>>
