16/05/2012 - The Rio+20 Conference will open in next month with a major fanfare. One of the two key themes is the “green economy”. What is this UN green economy initiative all about and what does it mean for business?
The United Nations Environment Program defines the green economy as “an economy that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities”. In its simplest expression, it is a low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive economy. The vision includes a 50% reduction of the human ecological footprint by 2050.
