Talkin about the long ignoring infrastructure needs and more then just upgrades and maintenance, infrastructure is much more then roads and bridges, and especially in the bush and perry's miracle growth state of texas and the billions the fed has given them!!!
Texas could face rolling blackouts next year, reports say
Dec. 1, 2011 - Texas could face power shortages as soon as next year as aging plants are mothballed in response to new environmental standards, according to the state's grid operator and the organization that monitors the U.S. power grids for the federal government.
In separate reports released days apart, both organizations determined that Texas will soon have an inadequate supply of backup power during periods of peak demand. The shrinking power reserves increase the chances of rolling blackouts if a major power plant goes offline on a very hot or cold day, when power use is greatest.
Texas suffered one rolling blackout last winter and narrowly avoided another this summer.
"If we stay in the current cycle of hot and dry summers, we will be very tight on capacity next summer and have a repeat of this year's emergency procedures and conservation appeals," said Trip Doggett, the CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
The reliability council report, released Thursday, concludes that Texas needs to build more power plants and possibly change grid-operating rules to make them more profitable. read more>>>
And texas is touted as one of the states leading in alternatives, tells ya how far we as a Country, that stated down that road some forty years back and allowed it to be blocked since, have come and are going as others are quickly leading in development and economic growth!
