October 7, 2011 - Voters Extend Liberal Party Leadership in Close Provincial Election.
The solar PV industry in Ontario has enjoyed explosive growth since the passage of the Liberal's Green Energy and Economy Act in May 2009. The province's progressive feed-in-tariff program was under threat from the Conservative party. That threat vanished in yesterday's election.
Last night the Green Energy sector celebrated the reelection of Dalton Mcguinty to lead the province's renewable energy revolution. "The Liberal's return to office, although with a slim minority, is a reassurance for Ontario's solar industry that the feed-in-tariff program which propelled the industry forward in the past two years will not be revoked", says Jacob Travis, president of Ontario Solar Network, a division of Solar Network International.
With over 410 MW of PV capacity expected to come online by the end of this year, according to Photon magazine, Ontario is now the second largest market in North America, after California. There are still many challenges, but new opportunities are also available now that a solid industry infrastructure is in place.
With continued strong support both for adoption of solar and the development of a local manufacturing base, Ontario is poised to be a strong leader in the emerging clean energy economy. read more>>>
