"We know the (green energy) construction jobs are temporary, but what is not temporary are the manufacturing jobs, the supply chain jobs — parts, components, the engineering, research and development jobs"
The only thing temporary about any construction industry job is the time till the next one! As long as the 'supply side', 'free market', 'reaganomics capitalist hoard their money instead of playing their con game, huge ponzi scheme, sold to the masses as we allowed the switch to top down economy and wall street not being used as investing in public company growth, there are no or very few 'next jobs', including the oh so long ignored infrastructure and those aren't just roads and bridges.
Trades workers, be they in the construction industry or any other industry, spend that hard earned cash, after days and many hours on sites, working both mentally and physically, they want relax time as well some of the enjoyment the time off and life can bring. They boost local businesses, especially small and national, which in turn create jobs, they boost state or national/international businesses by the products purchased, the jobs also create same ripple effect.
As to the alternative energy industries the 'supply siders', some being the same, have joined with those who locked this countries advancement in for some forty years, the ripple effect seaped into other industry as well as business plans, now using climate change denial as they can't use the old meme's like "energy is cheap" no more, just think where we'd be economically as well as worldwide policy if those brakes hadn't been locked. Those that envied us, and tried desperately to immolate but doing so with cheap product or copycat, are no longer as they have now taken the lead and are rapidly moving away from us.
Sept. 21, 2011 - How many jobs are created by the development of alternative energy was debated before lawmakers at the state Capitol on Wednesday with the traditional power generation industry calling claims of employment growth "deceptive and misleading." Speaking before the Public Utilities and Technology Interim Committee, Deseret Power President and CEO Kimball Rasmussen told the group of lawmakers that the number of jobs claimed by proponents of green energy was not supported by reliable data. He said the federal government edict to move toward an alternative energy-powered economy would not yield the employment boost supporters claim — 6.2 million jobs, according to the Jobs and Economic Development Impact or JEDI model. Rasmussen questioned the data and said that alternative energy development created a fraction of the number of permanent jobs typically created by traditional energy development — effectively a net loss of jobs to the long-term economy. "You can't look only at job creation on the green side without evaluating what it costs you elsewhere," he said. "Nationally, we shouldn't expect a 'green bailout' because the promises are overstated." Rasmussen said there is room for green jobs but called the notion that there would be a "green jobs bonanza" if the nation moved away from traditional energy development "deceptive and misleading" and ignored the net read more>>>
