'Green business is good business'

And it's never been just about the reality of climate change, though that is a main issue as to the need for green, it's always been about what we once were as innovators in moving forward for a better world and planet!

Huhne: 'Green business is good business'
Energy and climate change secretary defends low carbon policies and outlines plans to make energy market more competitive

20 Sep 2011 - Chris Huhne launched an impassioned defence of the coalition's green policy agenda today, insisting that the party remains fully committed to becoming the "greenest government ever" and intends to make green growth the centrepiece of the UK's economic recovery.

In a widely trailed move, the energy and climate change secretary also announced new powers for energy industry watchdog Ofgem designed to tackle alleged "predatory pricing" from the Big Six energy companies.

"In the 1930s, we did not create new jobs by bringing back the textiles, coal and iron jobs that were lost. We created new jobs in new industries. And the same is happening today," he said.

"Every month, more than 300,000 people leave the unemployment register to find new jobs. Thousands of those jobs are now in the low carbon economy. It is our route to recovery."

Huhne also rejected criticism from Conservative backbenchers and the right wing press suggesting that the economic crisis means the UK cannot afford to adopt green policies designed to drive investment in low carbon technologies.

Huhne complained that he "can hardly pick up a Tory paper these days without a whinge about energy and climate change policies", insisting that such policies are essential to maintaining economic growth and international competitiveness. read more>>>
