Builder focuses on environment-friendly construction

April 2, 2011 - In homebuilding, beauty may only be skin deep, but green construction runs deeper.

That is part of the philosophy at Florida Green Homes. The builder of a dozen homes in the Palm Coast area so far is committed to attaining as high a standard as possible when it comes to green building.

"It takes more than throwing in a string of Energy Star appliances to make a green home," said Gene Klemens, vice president of sales for Florida Green Homes. While the energy-efficient appliances that receive the Energy Star designation are part of living green, Klemens said Florida Green Homes starts at a much more basic level.

"We start with the selection of the lot," he said. And, he said, the builder makes sure what goes inside the house as well as underneath the structure also complies with green building standards, including pipes and ductwork. {continued}
