"Dual-Junction" Solar Cells

Just think where we'd be technology wise if we hadn't allowed the established corps beat down the start, back some thirty years ago, into solar and other energy forms, doing so even before research on climate change had advanced. Thing is, we had the advancing technology then. I know one thing, as a construction professional tradesman, we wouldn't have found ourselves in a collapsed economy and falling behind others rapidly. We'd have been doing what we once did, advancing our economy on the new and thus creating expanded job growth needs, i.e. a healthy, once, middle class and growth in investments!

RF Micro hits solar cell milestone

March 3, 2011 - RF Micro Devices says it has hit a milestone in its solar research that could help it develop a commercially viable production process for high-efficiency photovoltaic cells.

The milestone involves being able to successfully fabricate so-called "dual-junction" solar cells using RF Micro's standard 6-inch semiconductor equipment. RF Micro makes chips used in cell phones and a variety of wireless and other electronic applications, and being able to produce high-efficiency solar cells using existing, standard equipment could greatly reduce production costs.

CEO Bob Bruggeworth said the dual-junction milestone clears the way for RF Micro to move forward to triple-junction photovoltaic structures on the way to figuring out a commercially viable production method. {continued}
