Region on cusp of clean-tech boom

December 30, 2010 - San Diegans have strong reasons to believe that a vital and growing economy and a clean environment go together – because it’s a reality. It’s happening right now, and right here in San Diego.

A report just out from The San Diego Foundation finds that our clean and green industries already touch one in 10 jobs in our region. And all trends indicate that San Diego’s clean energy and clean-tech industries will be major job creators in the region for years to come. In fact, renewable energy investments already have brought in over $1 billion in investment capital to the region. It is likely that future investments could bring as much as $200 million to $1 billion in coming years, resulting in an estimated 5,400 to 27,000 more jobs.

That’s encouraging news during this time of economic uncertainty and confirms the importance of our continued commitments to pursue more clean, renewable energy and to continue making our homes and buildings as efficient as they can be, which are part of meeting California’s landmark clean energy and climate security law, AB 32. {continued}
