Iraq Investing in Solar and Wind

Report: Iraq to invest $1.6 billion in wind, solar
15 October 2012 - Iraq will spend up to $1.6 billion on solar and wind power stations over the next three years to add 400 MW to the national grid, according to a report by the Reuters News Service.

The report, which cites an official from Iraq's Ministry of Electricity, says the move is an attempt by the government to address a 5,200 MW shortfall in the country's power production, the root cause of daily blackouts.

At present power demand throughout Iraq is about 14,000 MW, while the country produces only 8,800. read more>>>
