The Thin-Film Solar Sector

The advances being made now would have already been in operation, and more would be happening, starting a couple of decade back. If the people hadn't of allowed the special interests to blocking the emerging industry into alternative clean fuels and energy sources. And it all would have been coming out of the U.S., with the newer industries in flourishing and profitable and with cheaper energy, where it pretty much started back when.

New thin-film record sees solar paying off even without subsidies
18 September 2012 - The German high-tech engineering firm Manz has achieved a breakthrough in the thin-film solar sector with a panel that sets a new world record for efficiency of 14.6%. According to the company, this new record and its efficient production technology means that solar power can now be generated at “a similar cost as electricity from fossil fuels and much cheaper than offshore wind”.

The German high-tech engineering firm claims that its integrated production line for CIGS thin-film solar panels, the Manz CIGSfab, can be used to manufacture solar panels that in the future will supply power costing between four Euro cents (Spain) and eight Euro cents (Germany) per kilowatt hour, depending on the location.

“This means the cost of solar power is now at a similar cost level as electricity from fossil power plants and is significantly less expensive than electricity from offshore wind parks. Factoring in taxes and duties as well as the rapidly increasing costs of fossil fuels, the green electricity clearly trumps the competition,” says the company. read more>>>
