Just think if all that wealth made, and added to by the 'job creating?' tax cuts, were actually being invested in the needed innovative industries where we would be now after especially the past five years plus. Thankfully some small businesses, many being locked out of financing, are finding some funds to get things going. Should have started some forty years ago when we first started moving into alternatives which then had the brakes locked on further advancement!
With a boost from government, environmentally friendly industries in Minnesota are adding workers.
July 12, 2011 - The private-sector "green" economy in Minnesota employs nearly 40,000 workers and is growing, a study by the Brookings Institution has found.
The study, "Sizing the Clean Economy," said U.S. employment in businesses and activities that produce an environmental benefit -- such as clean air or reduced reliance on fossil fuels -- reached 2.7 million jobs last year, with 1.7 million of those jobs in the private sector.
Much of the private-sector green economy is driven by manufacturing, often for export, and its median wages were 13 percent higher than in the economy overall, researchers found. The sector also offered more opportunities and better pay for low- and middle-skilled workers compared with the national economy, the study said.
Minnesota's largest private-sector green employers include manufacturers of energy-saving building materials, such as Andersen Corp. and other window makers, and the organic food industry, the Brookings report found.
While growth in some green jobs has been hurt by slowdowns in the housing and construction industries, employment in clean-energy sectors, including wind power, outpaced the rest of the economy, according to the nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C. read more>>>
