Environment: Urging Businesses to Work with Government

Environment White Paper urges businesses to work with Government

8th June 2011 - The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) released the first White Paper on the natural environment to be published in 20 years yesterday, urging businesses and communities to work with the Government to formulate a new economic outlook that views the environment as a top priority.
Based in part on the recently published National Ecosystem Assessment, which found nature to be an invaluable economic asset, 'The Natural Choice’ sets forth ambitious plans to protect, restore and improve England’s natural environment. Among the actions its sets out to help businesses are a roadmap to a greener economy and a new task force to help trade in green goods and services.

"The true value of nature should be built in to the decisions we make – as individuals, organisations, businesses and governments – so that we become the first generation to leave the environment in better condition than we found it," Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman said. "This is what 'The Natural Choice’ will help us all achieve."
