A Boost for SA’s fledgling green economy {?}

Investors ‘keen to fund SA’s green economy’

2011/06/08 - FOREIGN companies and investors keen to put money into SA’s fledgling green economy were "waiting for the right signals" from SA, the founder of an international business conference to run in parallel with the United Nations climate talks in Durban said yesterday.

President Jacob Zuma highlighted the green economy in his state of the nation address as one of six focus areas for job creation and experts have said SA stands to lose out on foreign trade if it does not develop a cleaner economy.

"It’s about creating a more resilient and stable economy that will have spin-off effects for South African business," said Michael Mathres, founder of the World Climate Summit, yesterday.

"I speak with companies looking from the outside in and they do see a huge opportunity here."

The conference is an annual business and finance get-together that runs parallel with the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, from November 28 to December 9. {continued}
